Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is a Homoeopathic Remedy? A Most homoeopathic remedies are derived from plant, animal or mineral sources and are prepared in a unique manner called 'potentisation' which enhances their medicinal properties. Click here for more information. Q Can I take Rescue Remedy or other homoeopathic remedies for an acute situation while on a constitutional remedy? A While on a constitutional remedy other energetic remedies such as Rescue Remedy, bush flower essences and other homoeopathic remedies should not be used as they will deactivate the constitutional remedy. If a serious acute situation such as severe tick bite or head injury arose then the appropriate acute remedy; ledum or arnica should be used. After the situation has resolved the constitutional remedy should be retaken. In general the best remedy for an acute such as a serious cold or gastrointestinal event is the constitutional remedy. It is counterproductive to start looking for an acute remedy unless the whole symptom picture changes, as a different remedy could be suppressive. Q How long does treatment continue? A When the correct constitutional remedy is found it is most likely that you will only require that particular remedy over a considerable period. In the first year of treatment a few doses may be required but this usually drops away to a point where a dose is required only yearly or less. In fact you can become so balanced that the remedy may not be required for some years. Q While on a remedy can I eat peppermints, use peppermint toothpaste, eat garlic and drink coffee and alcohol. A I suggest avoiding peppermint sweets and drinking 2 or less cups of peppermint tea per day but cleaning your teeth with peppermint toothpaste is fine. Garlic is not a problem and I don’t ask patients to withdraw coffee from their diets. Moderate alcohol consumption : 1 – 3 drinks daily won’t affect the remedy. Q Can I feel worse after a remedy? A It is possible that an initial aggravation of symptoms can occur after taking the remedy. This could occur with both mental and physical symptoms. The first month seems to be the most turbulent as the remedy confronts the disturbed vital essence and the healing process begins. After one month on the remedy and if the remedy is correct, I expect to see a feeling of well-being in my clients. |
